Localization Guard — Help Center
Getting started
- Install the app. Localization Guard only requests read-only permissions — it cannot change anything in your store.
- Run your first scan. Open the app and click Scan. The app checks your products across every enabled secondary locale.
- Read your Market Readiness Score. Each locale gets a score based on translation coverage and detected risks. Issues are grouped by impact so you know what to fix first.
- Fix in Shopify, not in the app. Every finding links directly to the affected product and to your translation editor. You stay in control of every change.
- Export and share. Download the CSV report and send it to your translator, agency, or teammate.
What each check means
- Missing title translation
- The product title has no translation in this locale. Untranslated titles hurt conversion and look unprofessional to local buyers.
- Untranslated URL (handle)
- The product URL is still in your source language. Localized URLs improve local SEO and click-through.
- Metafield translation gap
- A product metafield has source content but no translation. Common cause of mixed-language product pages.
- Protected term changed
- A brand name, SKU, or term you marked as protected was altered or disappeared in translation. Protects brand consistency and searchability.
- Outdated translation
- The source content changed after it was translated, so the live translation may no longer match.
FAQ
- Does Localization Guard translate my content?
- No, by design. It's a QA layer that finds issues; you fix them with your existing workflow (your translation editor, an agency, or any translation app).
- Can the app change or delete anything in my store?
- No. It uses read-only permissions only. Shopify enforces this at the API level.
- Does it access my customers' data?
- No. The app never requests customer, order, or payment data.
- Which locales does it check?
- Every secondary locale enabled in your store.
- How many products does it scan?
- Up to 50 products per scan. Localization Guard is currently free.
- What is the Market Readiness Score?
- A 0-100 score per locale combining translation coverage and risk findings. Use it as a go/no-go signal before publishing a market.
- What are protected terms?
- Words that must never change in translation: your brand name, product line names, SKUs, or trademarks. Enter them before a scan; the app flags translations where they disappear, and does not store the terms.
- Do scans run automatically?
- No. Scans run when you click Scan. Nothing happens in the background.
- Does it work with any translation app?
- Yes. The app reads Shopify's translation data regardless of which tool wrote it.
- What does the CSV export include?
- Every finding with product, locale, issue type, and a direct admin link — ready to hand to a translator as a work list.
- How do I uninstall, and what happens to my data?
- Uninstall from your Shopify admin like any app. The stored Shopify session is deleted, and the app does not persist product content, scan findings, protected terms, or CSV exports. See our Privacy Policy.
- I found an issue the app missed (or a false positive). What do I do?
- Share the example with us — real cases make the checks better for everyone.
Troubleshooting
- "No locales found"
- Your store has no secondary language enabled yet. Add one in Settings → Languages in your Shopify admin.
- Scan shows 0 products
- Check that your products are active. The app scans the first 50 products rather than returning zero when a store has more than 50.
- A translated product shows as missing
- Translations saved outside Shopify's translation system (e.g., duplicated products per language) aren't detected; the app reads Shopify's native translation data.
