Localization Guard

Find the gaps before you launch the market.

You translated your Shopify store, but did every title, URL, metafield, and brand term actually make it? This runs 23 read-only checks across your products and enabled languages and gives you a readiness score per locale — so you know what's missing before your customers find out.

Why this one

Read-only by design.

Translation apps write to your store. This one only reads. Localization Guard requests three Shopify permissions — read_products, read_translations, read_locales — and nothing else. It never edits a title, publishes a translation, or touches your customers' data.

Never writes to your store

No edits, no bulk updates, no deletions. Shopify enforces the read-only scopes at the API level. The app cannot change your content even if it wanted to.

No customer data

No access to customers, orders, or payments. The only data the app reads is product content, translations, and locale settings.

Nothing stored

Product content, scan findings, protected terms, and CSV exports are not persisted. The app stores only the Shopify session needed to stay installed and authenticated.

23 checks

What it looks for.

Grouped by the kind of problem. Each finding links to the affected product and to your translation editor so you can fix it where Shopify expects you to.

Translation coverage

01
Missing title translationProduct title has no translation in this locale. Untranslated titles hurt conversion and look wrong to local buyers.
02
Missing description translationProduct description exists in the source language but has no translation for the target locale.
03
Missing variant title translationVariant-level titles (size, color labels) left untranslated while the parent product is translated.
04
Missing option name translationOption names like "Size" or "Color" still showing in the source language on the localized storefront.
05
Missing option value translationOption values ("Small", "Red") untranslated — creates mixed-language product selectors.

URLs and SEO

06
Untranslated product handleProduct URL still in the source language. Localized handles improve local SEO and click-through rates.
07
Missing SEO title translationThe SEO/meta title has no translation — search engines show the source-language title in local results.
08
Missing SEO description translationThe meta description has no translation — local search snippets fall back to the source language.

Metafields

09
Metafield translation gapA translatable product metafield has source content but no translation. Common cause of mixed-language product pages.
10
Variant metafield translation gapSame check at the variant level — variant-specific metafields left in the source language.

Protected terms

11
Protected term changed in titleA brand name, SKU, or term you marked as protected was altered or disappeared in the translated title.
12
Protected term changed in descriptionSame check in the product description — catches brand terms that translators accidentally localized.

Staleness

13
Outdated title translationThe source title changed after it was translated. The live translation may no longer match the product.
14
Outdated description translationSource description updated since last translation — the localized version is stale.

Completeness and consistency

15
Partial product coverageSome fields on a product are translated while others are not — creates a mixed-language product page.
16
Empty translationA translation exists but is blank — the storefront shows nothing where content should be.
17
Source-identical translationThe translation is character-for-character identical to the source — likely untranslated or machine-copied.
18
Whitespace-only translationTranslation contains only whitespace — renders as an empty field on the storefront.
19
Variant without parent translationVariant is translated but the parent product is not — inconsistent and confusing for buyers.
20
HTML tag mismatchThe translation has different HTML structure than the source — can break product page layout.
21
Placeholder mismatchDynamic placeholders present in the source are missing or changed in the translation.
22
Excessive length differenceTranslation is significantly longer or shorter than the source — may indicate truncation or padding issues.
23
Locale with zero coverageAn enabled secondary language has no translations at all — the entire locale is unpublished.

Every finding includes the product, locale, and issue type. The app does not translate, fix, or edit anything — it reports what it finds and links you to where the fix lives in Shopify.

Honest comparison

When to use something else.

This is an auditor, not a translator. If you need the things on the right, use one of those — they're built for it.

Use Localization Guard

You want to know what's missing or broken in your translations before launching a new market.

Use a translation app

You need content translated — by machine, by AI, or by a human workflow. A dedicated translation app does this. This app does not translate a single word.

Use Localization Guard

You want a one-time QA pass after a bulk translate, a theme change, or a migration between translation apps.

Use a translation app

You want ongoing auto-translation of new products as they're created, with synonym management and language detection.

Use Localization Guard

You don't want to grant write access to your product content for a pre-launch check.

Use a full i18n suite

You need currency conversion, language switchers, geo-redirects, and storefront proxy translations — things that require write access and theme integration.

Pricing

Free. No catches.

One plan. No charges, no trial, no credit card, no Shopify billing. Install it, run a scan, export the CSV. The goal right now is to get the checks in front of real stores and learn what's missing — pricing comes later, if it comes at all.

Questions

Before you install

Does Localization Guard translate my content?
No, and it never will in this version. It's a QA layer that finds issues. You fix them with your existing workflow — your translation editor, a translation agency, or any translation app you already use.
Can the app change or delete anything in my store?
No. It requests only read-only Shopify permissions: read_products, read_translations, and read_locales. Shopify enforces this at the API level — the app cannot write, edit, or delete store content.
Does it access my customers' data?
No. The app never requests customer, order, or payment data. The only things it reads are product content, translations, and locale settings.
What data does the app store?
Only the Shopify session needed to keep the app installed and authenticated. It does not store copies of product content, scan findings, protected terms, or CSV exports. Scan results live in your browser view; the CSV is generated when you choose to export.
How many products does it scan?
Up to 50 products per scan, across every enabled secondary language in your store.
What is the Market Readiness Score?
A 0–100 score per locale combining translation coverage and risk findings. Use it as a go/no-go signal before publishing a market.
Will it stay free?
The current version is free with no billing integration. If a paid plan is introduced in the future, existing features won't be taken away from stores that already installed.
How do I uninstall, and what happens to my data?
Uninstall from your Shopify admin like any app. The stored session is deleted. Because the app doesn't persist product content or scan results, there's nothing else to remove. See the Privacy Policy for details.
